Vaporesso was kind enough to send us samples of the Vaporesso XROS 5 and XROS 5 Mini vapes for review. Let’s take a closer look at the devices and my impressions!
The latest vape kits in the Vaporesso XROS series are here: the Vaporesso XROS 5 and the XROS 5 Mini.
As always, Vaporesso was kind enough to send us samples of the devices for us to review. In lieu of two ultra-long reviews, I’ve decided to combine the two since they share so many features and similarities.
As regular readers will know, I’m a huge fan of the XROS (pronounced “cross”) series. Recently, my XROS 4 suffered a catastrophic transit accident, and my XROS Pro battery reached the end of its natural lifespan, so I’ve been using the XROS 4 Nano as my everyday vape. I’m not a huge fan of the matchbox-style form factor, so I was thrilled to get to try the new pen-style devices from the XROS series.
This is going to be a long one, so strap in, folks!

The Vaporesso XROS 5 and XROS 5 Mini have premiered with larger, more efficient batteries, better charging, and improvements on earlier features like the settings and adjustable airflow. As with all Vaporesso vape kits, these kits are tried and tested, made with premium, sturdy materials.
If you thought the XROS 4 generation was sleek, wait ‘til you see what the XROS 5 generation has in store. We’re promised more intuitive controls and more streamlined features than before—but how could they possibly improve upon perfection?
I guess we’ll find out. Let’s get into it!
I received the Lavender Purple finish for the XROS 5 and the Rose Red finish for the XROS 5 Mini. I’m not generally one for a hot pink accessory, but I love the two colours together.
Both vapes are slightly heavier than their previous iterations; whether that’s because they’re using different materials or they’re simply more sturdy, I don’t know, but both devices feel very premium. I was really surprised by the heft of the XROS 5 Mini given its low price point. It feels super durable.
The XROS 5 feels eerily similar to the XROS 4, metallic shell and ridges down the sides and all, except the screen is different. On the XROS 5, the 0.88” TFT screen is encased behind a bubble-like piece of glass which is honestly just a really nice place to rest your thumb when you’re holding it.

Mine has accumulated a number of scratches already after being stored in my bag, which isn't a great sign, but that's my only qualm thus far.
The XROS 5 Mini has a metallic skeleton, with thick plastic plates on the front and back of the device. These plates are definitely a fingerprint magnet, but depending on which finish you get, this may not even be noticeable. In my case, the plates on the vape somehow got scratches on them before I even left the office with the vape. The plastic is very prone to nicks and scratches.
Both vapes have “Vaporesso” emblazoned on the front and the logo on the back, with the airflow adjustment toggle on one side and the USB type-C charging port on the other.

The major differences between the two devices are their heights, the body material, and the interface. The XROS 5 is about a centimetre taller than the Mini, and the Mini lacks a screen. The Mini has that aforementioned plastic plating, while the XROS 5 is simply metallic.
Overall, I’m really fond of the shape and feel of these devices. They feel super sturdy, more so than the XROS 4 generation, which makes them perfectly suited for me and my clumsiness. I don’t really have any issues with the design of these vapes.
The Vaporesso XROS 5 and XROS 5 Mini have different interfaces to suit different experience levels.
The airflow adjustment toggle on the XROS 4 was my all-time favourite, but the XROS 5 and XROS 5 Mini have improved on this even further, somehow.
Now, instead of 3 holes that you can cover individually by toggling the switch, the toggle reveals a hidden smaller hole underneath—which means that if you close the airflow fully, you get a draw similar to a disposable vape without completely cutting off the airflow. It also means that there are no extra holes around the outside of the vape.

Keeping my airflow set halfway, there are two holes exposed, allowing for a tighter RDTL inhale—exactly how I like it!
I absolutely love this airflow system, and I’ll be outright astounded if Vaporesso can manage to improve upon it in the future.
The Vaporesso XROS 5 features a 0.88” TFT screen and fire button, plus 6 unique display options to help you customise your screen. Three of the display options have special animations—the Space, Watch, and Rainbow themes. The Black, White, and Pink themes don’t have a vaping animation.
I’m really fond of the Space theme. The little galaxy of stars radiates outward while you vape. Very cool!
For the first time ever in a vape (that I've seen), there are two separate lock options accessible via the menu: a button lock and a screen lock. The button lock simply prevents button-firing, meaning you can press the button without firing the vape to adjust the settings as needed. The screen lock prevents you from changing the settings accidentally.
Truthfully, I’ve been asking for this type of lock system for ages, since screens on MTL vapes first became a thing. For most vapes, you can either lock the button or lock the screen altogether, but not both.
And while I do feel it’s a little clunky having to open the menu to access these lock functions, unlocking is as simple as pressing the button 4 times.
The button functions are as follows:
I’m really impressed by the settings and menu on the Vaporesso XROS 5, especially the dual locking options. Plus, the Space animation is super pretty. All in all, I don’t have any negatives for this interface!
The Vaporesso XROS 5 Mini has no buttons, menus, or settings—just a simple 4-level tiding LED indicator light hidden beneath the front plate.
This LED indicator will glow to indicate your current battery level, measured in 25% increments. The LED is a bit dim on the hot pink finish, but this is me being picky.
All in all, it’s a very unobtrusive interface with very little going on, which makes it ideal for those switching away from disposable vapes and for those who are looking for something simple and easy to use.
Honestly, it’s one of the most beginner-friendly kits I’ve tried of late given all of the devices coming out with screens and settings galore. Sometimes, the market just needs a really simple kit with minimal fuss—especially following the UK’s new disposable vape ban.
This vape hits all the right notes with its ease of use and functionality.
Both the Vaporesso XROS 5 and XROS 5 Mini come equipped with a massive 1500mAh battery, rechargeable via USB type-C. The Vaporesso XROS 5 Mini utilises 2A fast charging, while the XROS 5 is capable of the rather uncommon 3A ultra-fast charging.
This means you’ll need a compatible 3A wall adapter to make use of the ultra-fast charging on the XROS 5. You can buy these wall adapters online. Otherwise, the vape will simply charge at a 2A (or 1A) speed, depending on the charging current of your power source or wall adapter.
When I first opened the devices, the XROS 5 came 54% charged, while the XROS 5 Mini came about 75% charged.
The batteries in these devices last me longer than any pod vape I’ve ever used. If I was without a charger, I could easily get about a day and a half out of these as a frequent, heavy vaper. I haven’t tried either vape with the 0.4Ω (ohm) pods yet—my preferred resistance—though those are sure to reduce the battery life slightly.
The vapes charge reasonably quickly, though I don’t have access to a 3A charger (only a 2A charger).
Plus, when it’s plugged in, the XROS 5 gives you an estimated time to full charge on its little screen (which I often find is a bit overestimated, even with 2A charging). I absolutely love this detail.

The samples I received of the Vaporesso XROS 5 and XROS 5 Nano came with the new Corex 3.0 pods which haven’t yet been released in the UK. I was informed after the fact that Vaporesso is still perfecting these pods, so the commercially-available versions of these vapes will have the Corex 2.0 pods instead.
Which is a shame, honestly. The Corex 3.0 pods are excellent. They’re a bit shorter than the 2.0 pods and offer marginally less E-Liquid visibility, but the mouthpiece is made of a much more flexible material that doesn’t stick or crack easily like the mouthpiece on the 2.0 pods does.
After this much use, the mouthpiece on my 2.0 pod would be cracked by now, causing a tiny but consistent amount of leakage. I generally only replace my XROS pods once the mouthpiece cracks, which happens long before the coil goes bad.
Vaporesso says they want to ensure the pods are absolutely perfect before introducing them to the market, which I fully respect—though I hope they get around to it soon!
The XROS 5 comes with two Corex 2.0 pods included: the 0.6Ω (ohm) pod pre-installed and a spare 0.8Ω pod. The XROS 5 Mini comes with just one pod: the 0.6Ω pod, which is pre-installed.
The Vaporesso XROS pods come in a wide range of resistances, from 0.4Ω for RDTL vapers who love a dense, flavourful cloud to 1.2Ω which gives a smaller amount of vapour, closer to what you’d get from a disposable vape. I’d say anything from 0.8Ω and above is ideal for MTL vaping, while the 0.4Ω and 0.6Ω pods are better for RDTL vapers.

As always, no matter which resistance you choose, you should only be using E-Liquids with a 50/50 ratio of PG to VG, which includes nic salts, freebase 10ml E-Liquids, and 50/50 shortfills.
My favourite thing about the XROS pods is that they have clamshell top-filling, which is ideal for quick and mess-free refills. No E-Liquid residue leftover on your fingertip from fiddling with a silicone plug. They’re also crystal clear, so it’s easy to keep an eye on your E-Liquid level.
These vapes are an absolute delight to use. For both vapes, you’ll need to ensure you prime the pod the first time you use it. That means filling it up about 80% of the way and letting the liquid sit for about 5 minutes before you take your first puff.
For the XROS 5, once you’ve got your settings how you want them, it’s smooth sailing. I keep both the button and the screen locked so I don’t have to worry about the vape when it’s in my pocket or handbag.
The XROS 5 Mini is even easier to use. Simply pop in your primed pod, set your airflow, and give it a whirl.
I haven’t experienced a single hiccup using either vape. Both work seamlessly from the very first puff.
This is truthfully a really hard review to write since I have so few criticisms. Usually I can critique the design, or the functionality of the interface, or the refill port on the pods, but these vapes are really top-notch. I have very few qualms, and the few I do have are quite subjective.
The Vaporesso XROS 5 and the XROS 5 Mini are an ideal choice for MTL and RDTL vapers looking for a reasonably priced, easy-to-use device with a massive battery and very few bells and whistles. If you want a vape that works, won’t break easily on you, and does exactly what it promises, look no further.
If you’re new to vaping, the XROS 5 Mini is the way to go. If you’ve been around the block a few times and want something a little more customisable, the XROS 5 is a solid option.
I like to include accessibility information in all of my hardware reviews due to the sheer number of adult smokers making the switch to vaping. Those with accessibility requirements stemming from dexterity issues or visual impairments should take extra care when choosing a device to ensure it meets their needs.
In this case, I think the Vaporesso XROS 5 Mini is an excellent kit for those seeking something accessible. There are no tiny buttons or screens, which is great if you have issues with your vision. And the top-fill pods have the most accessible fill port of any vape on the market today, in my opinion, though it’s not perfect, as you’ll still need to be able to grip the mouthpiece and refill the pods using the small 10ml bottles.
Vaping still has a long way to go in the realm of accessibility. However, if you need something to suit your needs, the XROS 5 Mini is probably your best bet.
These pod vapes share a lot of the same pros and cons, so please pardon the repetition. Let’s compare the XROS 5 and the XROS 5 Mini side by side.

I had a really tough time finding flaws in the Vaporesso XROS 5 or XROS 5 Mini. Both were durable, handy, easy to use, and tasted as spectacular as I’ve come to expect from the Vaporesso XROS series. Plus, the battery size is nothing to scoff at. My only real concern is that both vapes are prone to scratches—the XROS 5 Mini definitely more so.
I really can’t wait to try the new XROS Corex 3.0 pods once they come out, but until then, I’m just happy I have a new XROS kit to replace my old one!
